The film features Jagannadh in the lead role with Prakash Raj, Mukesh Rishi, Nikita, Simran, Pooja Hegde and newcomer Padmavathi Vijayakumar in supporting roles. It marked the last on-screen appearance of the late veteran actress, Jyothi. The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by Ilaiyaraaja and soundtrack was released under the record label "A.R. Rahman". The film had a theatrical run of 125 days. Plot Pokiri (Puri Jagannadh) is an honest Police Inspector of the Jai Durga Nagar Police station. He has two teenage daughters, Shruthi (Pooja Hegde) and Pooja (Padmavathi Vijayakumar). He marries Shruthi off to her elder brother, who is his junior at the Police station. He constantly attempts to get even with the two brothers, so that his family becomes homeless and that way he can continue enjoying his newfound wealth and freedom. Meanwhile, he comes across a girl, who he finds interesting, at the airport and travels to meet her. During their first meeting, the girl introduces herself as Pooja, the younger sister of Pandurang, a leader of the Naxalites. Pandurang had been captured by the police and is serving a life sentence in a prison. He is also Pooja's father. Pokiri's sister-in-law falls in love with Pandurang and stays away from home to visit him. While Pooja stays with her father, Pokiri begins spending more time with her, now understanding that she is from a poor family and that she is supporting her family. After some time, he proposes to her and asks her to give him another chance. She agrees and they get married. After their marriage, Pokiri starts to realise that his family is helpless and that their every act is being watched by the police. To get even with them, he wants to get a daughter-in-law for his brother. He reveals the plan to Pooja and she asks him to call off the wedding. Pokiri buys a second-hand car, which has been modified into a weapon of mass destruction (WMD) capable of carrying a nuclear bomb, and he starts working for the government as an informant.
